California Young Artists Symphony Presents Shostakovich 10 and Strauss’s “Don Juan”
The California Young Artists Symphony presents the opening capstone concert of its fifth season with an unforgettable evening of music at the distinguished Kavli Theatre in Thousand Oaks.

The program consists of two monumental symphonic works: Shostakovich’s 10th Symphony and Strauss’s tone poem “Don Juan”. Shostakovich’s 10th Symphony is considered to be one of his most profound works, and was written shortly after the death of Joseph Stalin. “Don Juan” is considered by many to be the pinnacle of symphonic virtuosity, a veritable fireworks display of technical and expressive performance.

The program is led by Maestro Alexander Treger (LA Phil, AYS, Pepperdine University). Renowned for his performance as a violinist and conductor, Mr. Treger held principal positions with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and succeeded Mehli Mehta as conductor of the American Youth Symphony.

CYAS was launched in the fall of 2021 to the acclaim of audiences and artists nationwide. With musicians from institutions such as the Colburn Conservatory, the Thornton School of Music at USC (among many others), CYAS forms an electrifying ensemble rich in energy and expression. Concerts are a unique experience for musicians and audiences alike. CYAS Alumni can be found in the London Philharmonic, Detroit Symphony, Naples Philharmonic, and beyond.
