The City of Rio Rancho will recognize Memorial Day with a remembrance ceremony, honoring the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in military service to their country. The ceremony will take place at the Veterans Memorial Park at 10 a.m. The ceremony will include the laying of a wreath and presentation of Taps, and four displays representing the history of the Battlefield Crosses from the Civil War, WWI, WWII, through Korea and Vietnam wars, along with Desert Storm through the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
A set of military boots representing fallen service members from each branch will also be displayed. The boots will be laid out in military formation and will have a personalized portrait of a fallen veteran alongside each one. The boots representing fallen service members will be displayed at Veterans Park as a powerful, temporary memorial. The memorial ceremony is organized by Rio Rancho's own Marine Corps League – Detachment 1316, American Legion Post 118, VFW Post 5890, Women Veterans of New Mexico, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
For questions about the ceremony, please call the Rio Rancho Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department at 505-891-5015.
