This rugged durable twill has a great history and has become an important fabric of life. Denim comes in many different styles and is used for many different garments. Remember those beloved cut offs? In the 80’s you would not be seen in jeans with tears in them, now we pay people to add the tears to jeans before they even enter the stores. Many iconic pieces of art have included denim; everything from Bruce Springstein’s Album cover for “Born in the USA” to those Calvin Klein ads and beyond. Show us yours! Pottery with a denim texture, painted art on jackets, homemade quilts, rugs, and baskets, etc. Denim landscapes or photographs of that ever so loved denim are all welcome.

RATIONAL FOR THE THEME: Denim has become a wardrobe staple and tons of jeans go to the dump or thrift shop for someone else to love. Let’s show denim some love in a creative way! Denim requires a tanker truck of water to create from planting the cotton seed to delivering the final pair of jeans to the store. That’s approximately 1500 gallons to grow the cotton, clean the cotton, manufacture and dye the cloth for just a single pair. The washing and bleaching are repeated and require hundreds of gallons of water. After the agriculture industry, the entire textile industry produces the 2nd largest polluter of water.  So, keep them longer, mend what you can, and upcycle them into art!

Dates: December 9, 2024 - January 11, 2025
