This spring, Powell Gardens welcomes visitors to immerse themselves in the vibrant world of Painted Garden, running April 26 through June 15, 2025. A celebration of color, creativity, and nature, Painted Garden transforms Powell Gardens into an open-air gallery with botanical displays, art installations, and experiences that invite guests to explore the intersection of art and the natural world.
“Each spring, Powell Gardens becomes a living gallery,” said Cody Jolliff, CEO of Powell Gardens. “With Painted Garden, we invite our guests to experience the Gardens in a fresh way—through the lens of a featured artist and new installations. This year’s artwork and special events celebrate creativity, community, and the stunning renewal of spring in Kansas City.”
A highlight of this year’s Painted Garden is Growth, an awe-inspiring glass installation by Kansas City artist Tyler Kimball (Monarch Glass Studio). Displayed in the Conservatory, Growth features sculpted wisteria vines cascading in rich hues of amethyst and emerald, while glowing obelisks rise from the pond below, reflecting the harmony between organic growth and geological formation.
Visitors will also discover new and favorite outdoor sculptures along the Dennis and Annette Young Magnolia Walk, Dogwood Walk, and Visitor Center Terraces, showcasing regional artists’ work alongside the Gardens’ lush spring landscapes. Hidden within the David T. Beals III Woodland and Stream Garden, look for whimsical fairy houses to add an element of enchantment to your visit.
