First Day Hikes is a national-led effort that encourages individuals and families to experience, with a seasoned guide, the beautiful natural and cultural resources found in the outdoors and in doing so may inspire them to take advantage of these treasures throughout the year and an individual’s lifetime. Nature has been proven to boost our moods and make us feel healthy and exploring the outdoors is the perfect way to start the new year.
Location: Meet at Ayala Cove, the ferry landing at Angel Island State Park. Participants must take the Angel Island Tiburon Ferry to Angel Island, which departs from downtown Tiburon. No ferries will depart from San Francisco on Jan. 1.

What to Expect: Join State Park Interpreters for a 4 mile moderately paced "walk 'n' talk" guided hike. We'll pause along the way to share cultural and natural history. Expect moderate elevation gain, with some paved and unpaved surfaces, and stairs.
Length of Hike: 4.0 mile, 3 hours
Preparation: Wear walking shoes and layers. Bring a snack/lunch and water bottle.
Special Instructions: Hike will be rain or shine. If weather is stormy, please check the Angel Island-Tiburon Ferry schedule to ensure ferry is running.
Ages: 7 and up! Children must be accompanied by an adult.
