First Day Hikes is a national-led effort that encourages individuals and families to experience, with a seasoned guide, the beautiful natural and cultural resources found in the outdoors and in doing so may inspire them to take advantage of these treasures throughout the year and an individual’s lifetime. Nature has been proven to boost our moods and make us feel healthy and exploring the outdoors is the perfect way to start the new year.

Location: Meet at the picnic tables in the entrance parking lot near the Armstrong Redwoods Visitor Center.

Parking: $10.00 per vehicle and $9.00 with senior citizen discount. Free to pedestrians and bicyclists.

What to Expect: Experienced guides will meet participants near the visitor center for an inspiring and rejuvenating walk below towering coast redwoods. The Pioneer Trail is 1.5 miles round trip, ADA accessible, and mostly flat and level.

Length of Hike: 1.5 mile, 2 hours

Preparation: Dress in weather-appropriate clothing, including warm layers, as the forest is often damp and cool. Wear comfortable walking shoes or boots. Bring drinking water and snacks.
