First Day Hikes is a national-led effort that encourages individuals and families to experience, with a seasoned guide, the beautiful natural and cultural resources found in the outdoors and in doing so may inspire them to take advantage of these treasures throughout the year and an individual’s lifetime. Nature has been proven to boost our moods and make us feel healthy and exploring the outdoors is the perfect way to start the new year.
Location: Meet at the parking lot adjacent to park entrance in front of the Bannister House. Look for the “First Hike Here” sign.
Parking: Parking is $7 per vehicle. Pay by LAZ App.
What to Expect: After checking in, we’ll walk to the highest point of the park to do an easy yoga stretch session and cool down with Angelique, from Tula Yoga. Then stay for a grove tour. Tours start at the Museum at 11a.m. and are 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Length of Hike: 1.5 mile, 3 hours
Preparation: Wear comfortable shoes for walking and comfortable clothes. Dress in layers, use sun protection, and bring water, snacks, camera (optional), and binoculars (optional).
Special Instructions: The guided walks are stroller and dog friendly. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. Please be aware that these events can be cancelled due to inclement weather.
Ages: All ages, abilities, and experience levels are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
