First Day Hikes is a national-led effort that encourages individuals and families to experience, with a seasoned guide, the beautiful natural and cultural resources found in the outdoors and in doing so may inspire them to take advantage of these treasures throughout the year and an individual’s lifetime. Nature has been proven to boost our moods and make us feel healthy and exploring the outdoors is the perfect way to start the new year.

Location: Valley View Trail. Meet at Parking Lot #1. Directions available at Entrance Kiosk.

Parking: Parking Lot #1. Directions available at Entrance Kiosk. $10 per vehicle. Pay with cash, credit card (no American Express), or check.

What to Expect: Valley View Trail includes a moderate to strenuous 500-foot elevation climb through a redwood and oak woodland to the Valley View Overlook where you will be rewarded with a tremendous view of the Big Sur River Valley, Point Sur, and Andrew Molera SP.

Length of Hike: 2.0 mile, 2 hours

Preparation: Hiking shoes, snacks and water recommended.

Special Instructions: Please arrive by 10 a.m. Hike will happen rain or shine. There is no cell service in this area so plan accordingly. Hike is approximately 2 miles roundtrip and will take 2 hours to complete.

Ages: All ages welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
