First Day Hike at Walden Pond State Reservation

Go at your own pace with a self-guided hike at Walden Pond. Interpretive signage will guide visitors along the 1.5-mile trail. Self-guided hike begins at the Visitor Center.

Warm up with hot cocoa after your hike at the Visitor Center, which will be open regular winter hours, 10:00 am- 3:00 pm.

12:00-2:00 pm: Henry David Thoreau, portrayed by historian Richard Smith, will be in the replica house with the woodstove burning, entertaining folks with tales of his days at Walden Pond. Sponsored by Friends of Walden Pond.

This program is FREE, please note that on holidays and weekends, Walden Pond often closes due to capacity. Check DCR Park Alerts for closures at www.mass.gov/parkalerts

First Day Hikes have been a DCR tradition since 1992.

No pets are allowed at Walden Pond State Reservation. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
