Happy New Year! Let's start your New Year's resolution out on the right foot and hit a state park trail. Join a ranger at Landsford Canal State Park and enjoy a 1 ½ mile hike along the preserved ruins of the Landsford Canal and the banks of the Catawba River. We will make stops in a few places to examine the 200-year-old masonry and embankments of the canal, to discuss the canal’s fascinating history, and to look for wildlife. Landsford has a resident pair of bald eagles that nests here year after year. Eagles lay their egg(s) around the end of February, so early January may offer chances to view them working on their nest! Along the way there can be other wildlife viewing opportunities as the river provides food and shelter for great blue herons, otters, and several species of ducks. Trails are moderate and fairly level.
