First Day Hike, to the Spillway
Join us on a volunteer-led hike to the Lake Raven Spillway
Kick off the New Year with boots on the trails of your favorite Texas State Parks. We have been celebrating bringing in the New Year with recreational opportunities around the state. And this morning a group will be going out from the Nature Center to visit one of our most popular scenic areas.
The original spillway and dam were built by the African American Veterans of CCC Company 1823 CV. Opposite the day-use area, it offers a quite spot to look across the lake at Ravens Lodge and enjoy the woods around you.
This hike is about 5 miles from the Nature Center and Back. You can take additional loops and detours, if you'd like. Volunteers will be on the trail, but you can hike at your own pace. Bring water and wear trail/weather appropriate gear.
This program is not accessible as there is uneven terrain, roots and sand. A shorter hike can be done from the Chinquapin Trailhead in Coloneh camping loop.
This program is weather dependent. Please follow us on social media for more information. The program is free with your day pass.
