Utility Work's MakerSpace is proud to present the Fundamentals of Raw Clothing Constructions and Life Skills Workshop Series, led by Netfah Amina- Afia. This six-part course will cover a holistic range of perspectives on our relationship with clothing. From studying the materiality and learning hands-on how to manipulate different materials and fabrics to reflecting on our ecological responsibility and learning actionable steps to become better shepherds of the planet to discussing basic concepts of holistic dress, this course challenges its students to cultivate a slow fashion mindset in a fast fashion world. Each week, students will leave the class with a finished piece.

Students are STRONGLY encouraged to sign up for the entire series. If they are unable to, students may sign up for only one of the week's topics by selecting that week's tickets.

Materials: Basic materials provided. Donated materials are welcome.

Class size: 5 min -12 max per workshop session

Workshop Time: 90 total/45min instructional

Duration: 6 sessions (Tues 4/22-Tue 5/27 @6pm)

About the Instructor:
A global fashion designer, seamstress, and wholistic adornment coach, Netfah Amina~Afia holds a degree in Family & Consumer Science from Rowan University and her C.H.H.C certification from the International Board of African Thinkers, Traditional Priests, Healers and Religion Inc. A long-time advocate on behalf of the slow-fashion movement and a consummate student despite over 30 years in the fashion/textile industry, Netfah infuses traditional and new-age insights into her sought after experiential classes. Her series of adornment and FRCC workshops are designed to offer transformational tools and fundamental life skills that will equip individuals for a lifetime.

You will leave this class feeling confident, coordinated, and strong. You will feel your full dimensionality as a human being!

'Design Your Own Unique Fiber Wall Art'. Play your part in creating sustainable art by repurposing our provided selection of African prints, assorted trims and design accents to create unique works of fiber art to add to wall or tabletop décor.

Cost: Standard Rates: $250 full series / $50 per session.
