11:00 AM : Turn Left at the End of the World
2004 - 1 h 50 min - Avi Nesher - France & Israel - English, French, Hebrew, Hindi & Moroccan Arabic
Avi Nesher’s quirky story of a teenage girl whose family migrates to Israel from India and ends up in a 1960s-era Negev development town. The film explores the hardships and surprises that come with the integration of multiple families from different ethnic backgrounds (from the diaspora) and their struggle with immigration and prejudice. The film is in Hebrew, French, English, Moroccan Arabic, and Hindi, a combination of languages that have likely never been featured in a single movie before, or since. Turn Left at the End of the World was selected as a "New Israeli Classic" in a special event by the Tel Aviv Cinemateque in October 2024 exhibiting the new digitally restored version made for the film's 20th anniversary.
