Pottsgrove Manor presents a lecture on Law in 18th-Century Pennsylvania on  SATURDAY, JANUARY 18th at 1:00PM with retired lawyer and legal studies professor, Paul Trainor. The rights of women, tavern licensing, and navigating the legality of owning enslaved and indentured servants were all impacted by the ever-changing legal system in colonial America. As law transformed during this time, it impacted the lives of all Pennsylvanians, and the Potts family was no exception. John Sr. served as Justice of the Peace. Two of his sons, John Jr. and James both became lawyers, but their education styles differed. Learn about how the Potts family experienced the lived reality of this shifting approach and gain a greater understanding of Law in 18th-century Pennsylvania! After the presentation, stay to take a guided tour of Pottsgrove Manor, or peruse the gift shop. *Suggested donation of $2 per person. Weather dependent. Rain date is scheduled for 1pm on January 25th.
