Join us for "Lecture: Building the National Museum of the American Latino", a presentation by Jorge Zamanillo, Founding Director of the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Latino. Zamanillo will share the vision, creation, and future plans for this groundbreaking institution, established by Congress in December 2020, to celebrate Latino heritage and contributions to the U.S.

The talk will explore the museum's origins and key milestones, such as opening its first gallery, introducing its new brand identity, and launching a charter membership campaign. Zamanillo will also discuss the museum's community-centered approach and national initiatives.

Before joining the Smithsonian, Zamanillo was the executive director and CEO of HistoryMiami Museum. Zamanillo was born in New York City and grew up in Miami. He earned a bachelor's degree in anthropology at Florida State University in Tallahassee and a master's in museum studies at the University of Leicester in Leicester, England.
