Grupo Cultural Latinos en Rochester invites the community to unleash their creativity and celebrate Latin American traditions at a free 3-day Mask-Making Workshop, part of the vibrant Project Carnaval initiative. This hands-on, family-friendly event will take place at Casa Hispana, Nazareth University, and is open to all ages and skill levels.
Participants will learn the art of traditional mask-making inspired by Latin American Carnaval celebrations. Guided by local artists, attendees will explore cultural symbolism and design techniques and create their own expressive masks to take home or wear during upcoming community festivities.
Highlights include:
* All materials are provided free of charge
* Instruction in both English and Spanish
* Cultural storytelling and music
* A showcase of completed masks on the final day
This workshop is made possible through the generous support of the Rochester Area Community Foundation, whose commitment to arts and cultural enrichment helps bring inclusive, community-centred programming to life.
“This workshop is more than just an art class—it’s a celebration of identity, heritage, and community,” says the Grupo Cultural Latinos en Rochester team. “We welcome everyone to join us in honoring the spirit of Carnaval through creativity and connection.”
