Portage Township Trustee Brendan Clancy is hosting a dedication of the Portage Township Cemeteries’ Veterans Section beginning at 8:30 a.m., Memorial Day, Monday, May 26 at McCool Cemetery.
McCool, Blake and James/Schrock cemeteries have been the final resting places of Portage Township veterans dating back to the War of 1812.
Also at this time, the cemetery’s office will be dedicated to long-time Portage Township Cemetery Director Deborah “Debbie” M. Clem, who passed away in 2022, for her passion and commitment to the many families she so lovingly served for over 14 years.
A breakfast will be held at 8:30 a.m., followed by the ceremony at 9 a.m. featuring Portage Township Trustee Brendan Clancy; posting of colors by members of the American Legion Posts 502 and 260; singing of the National Anthem by Sofia Rivera; speakers Portage Mayor Austin Bonta, State. Rep. Charles Moseley, U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan and American Legion Posts 502 and 260 commanders; blessing by Pastor Jason Kegebein and Three Volley Salute and Taps by Deborah Moulton.
