The Merchants Mall will feature everything for quilt, fiber, wearable & textile artists, and home sewers. In addition, MAQF will present the finest collection of quilt, garment, and fiber art exhibitions including quilt and wearable art prize money competitions. Rounding out the event will be workshops and lectures presented by leading instructors along with demonstrations throughout the Merchants Mall.

VA039 - Westalee Let’s Quilt a Real Quilt with Rulers!

You’ve done plenty of “practicing” on little quilt sandwiches; now’s the time to work on a real quilt with seams, sashing, borders and real-world scenarios. Using a simple, traditional-type quilt, learn how to plan and pick your designs, learn to quilt in sections, if needed while dealing with normal quilt issues, getting around corners in the borders and whatever else happens when you quilt. None of this is very difficult, it’s just the next step and knowing the tips and tricks will make it go more easily for you. This is for All Levels – we’ll plan your quilt with that in mind. Note: All students will consult with me before class to give you the most learning potential in our class time and have you ready to work. Quilting in sections will give you great info for handling the bulky, bigger quilts. Last minute students can work on practice sandwiches or pre-printed block panels. All Levels Students to Provide

Your “good” sewing machine – make sure it’s cleaned and working well.
Ruler work supplies – Ruler foot options, Quilters table [need 3 weeks to order and ship],
Glider Sheet options and any Westalee ruler-work templates you own. [Link to current catalogs to check out rulers - Full Line and Quarterly Specials]
Most of you should have the Westalee WQTSS-6 Template Sampler Set 6 piece which has many design options or contact me to discuss what you have.

A quilt to work on: Could be an existing quilt, with little to no quilting yet, or a new project- which you’ll do in sections. [You could also bring fat- quarter sized quilt sandwich to just practice designs].
