250 years ago on July 2, 1775 George Washington arrived at Cambridge, Mass. to take command of the Continental Army. One year later on July 2, 1776 the Provincial Congress of New Jersey including two delegates from Old Dutch Parsonage declared New Jersey independent of Great Britain.

Historical musician and balladeer Linda Russell shares broadsides, ballads, love songs and humorous ditties as she tells the stories of everyday life in early America at the opening of the Revolutionary War. Included are such songs as "Johnnie's Gone for a Soldier," "Soldier, Soldier, Will You Marry Me" and George Washington's favorite dance tune!
