Mendelssohn's spellbinding score propels Sir Frederick Ashton's charming one-hour Victorian adaptation of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream through a magical forest filled with mischievous fairies and a farcical comedy of errors. Les Noces is a unique 1923 collaboration between a woman choreographer Bronislava Nijinska, and a woman designer Natalia Goncharova. This memserizing abstract tale of a slavic peasant wedding is set to Stravinsky's dynamic oratorio of full chorus, four solo singers, four pianos and percussion that exemplifies the revolutionary modernist art that was coming out of the famed Ballet Russes.
