Start your adventure at the entrance to Chapman State Park. From the parking area, follow the driveway around to Mount Aventine, where you can enjoy stunning views of the Potomac River. Behind the mansion, take in the breathtaking scenery before beginning the Potomac Trail. Head down the hill toward the river, soaking in the shoreline vistas as you go. When you reach the shoreline, bear to the right to join the Coastal Woodlands Trail. Along this section, you’ll pass a historic cemetery—take a moment to explore before continuing your hike. The trail gradually climbs back uphill through a mix of coastal oak forest and pine groves. Your journey concludes near an old barn, with a final view of the Mount Aventine in the distance.
