Sacred Songs and Rituals brings Kendra Comstock, soprano, and Charles Iner, lute, to explore Catholic persecution during the English Renaissance and the forms of secret musical resistance Catholic musicians created during this time. This event is in person in the Main Library Lecture Hall. Registration is required.

Sacred Songs and Rituals is a Cambridge Public Library music series celebrating the divine in the many cultures found in Cambridge.

Soprano Kendra Comstock, is a Boston-based performer and teacher. Kendra performs a wide variety of Classical and Contemporary repertoire, but is especially passionate about singing early music. Recent engagements include performances with Vermont Chamber Artists, Pegasus Early Music, NYS Baroque, the Cambridge Chamber Ensemble, and more.

Charles Iner is a Boston-based lutenist, guitarist, educator, and basso continuo performer. Previous ensemble performances include concerts with Emmanuel Music, BOOM (Baroque Orchestra of Maine), Cappella Clausura, Convivium Musicum, as well as with his own ensemble, Il Contrapposto.

“We are very excited to be performing this program at the Cambridge Public Library. It's impactful to present these songs, which are from a time of great uncertainty for the composers. The music feels as relevant now as it did 400 years ago when it was written,” said lutist Charles Iner.
