Stuart Markus - Folk-Rock of the '60s and '70s

Stuart Markus - Folk-Rock of the '60s and '70s: Love, Peace and Protest!

A fixture on the Long Island acoustic scene for over 30 years and a mainstay on the local folk/songwriter circuit for over 20, Stuart Markus is known far beyond these shores not only for his voice and guitar playing, but his depth of repertoire and knowledge of the history of the songs he performs, from modern singer-songwriters to 19th-century sea chanteys. Locally famous as the leader of the folk-rock harmony trio Gathering Time, Stuart is a part of two #1 albums on the International Folk DJ Chart and two others in the top-5, and two #1 singles. For over 20 years he has organized the Just Wild About Harry Chapin tribute shows at Eisenhower Park, Heckscher Park and our own Jeanne Rimsky Theater; he also serves on the board of the Folk Music Society of Huntington.

In this program, Folk-Rock of the ’60s & ’70s: Love, Peace and Protest, Stuart will perform songs by some of the decade’s greats: from Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, and Phil Ochs to Gordon Lightfoot, Crosby, Stills & Nash and James Taylor, many of which have regained renewed relevance in today’s fractured American society.

Afternoon T.E.A. is a free program for seniors featuring live entertainment, lectures, classic films and more!
