The TAIKOPROJECT team consists of the most talented and brightest young taiko performers in the U.S. Since its establishment in 2000 in Los Angeles, California, by Bryan Yamami and Masato Baba, the group has been committed to maintaining gender balance and embracing multicultural diversity, which has allowed the art form to flourish in America.

TAIKOPROJECT has pioneered a modern American style of taiko by blending traditional forms with an innovative and fresh aesthetic. In 2005, the group made history by becoming the first American taiko group to win the prestigious Tokyo International Taiko Contest, surpassing all Japanese taiko groups. Additionally, they were featured in the Mitsubishi Eclipse commercial, marking the first and only national advertising campaign to prominently showcase taiko. Since then, TAIKOPROJECT has performed at high-profile events such as the Academy Awards, the Grammy Awards, NBC's "The Voice," Syfy's Face/Off, The X-Factor, and rock band 30 Seconds to Mars' "Up in the Air" music video. They have also been featured on shows like Conan and Jimmy Kimmel Live, as well as at the iHeartRadio Music Festival. Their achievements were recognized with the prestigious Visionary Award from East West Players.

A little bit about the Icicle Creek Visiting Artist Series:

Join us in inspiring the next generation of creators through the Icicle Creek Visiting Artist Series. This incredible series brings talented performing artists from across the country and beyond to not only showcase their work but also share their creative processes with students. These artists visit schools, engaging with and performing for students. Their visit culminates in a captivating concert at Icicle Creek’s Snowy Owl Theater for the whole community to enjoy! Attending these concerts directly supports the work that we do here at ICCA to creatively engage with the students of our valley. We thank you for being a part of this!
