Looking for some peaceful, prayerful time away from a crowded schedule as you prepare for Easter or another upcoming special event? Then plan to attend a Lenten Taizé prayer service that will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 14, in the Lighthouse room at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville.

By its very simplicity, Taizé welcomes the mystery of God and allows that mystery to become tangible. It is sung meditative prayer: Refrains, repeatedly sung throughout the service, alternate with readings from Scripture and prayer to generate a meditative, serene atmosphere.  

As a prayer form, Taizé traces its beginnings to WWII France, when a group of young Christians from Eastern Europe settled in Taizé in August 1940 and organized a community that today numbers  some 80 brothers with differing church backgrounds – Catholic, Anglican and Protestant – representing almost 30 countries. From such a humble beginning, Taizé prayer spread throughout the world.
