The Horry County Museum presents a program on the Vietnam War by Coastal Carolina University History Professor John Navin on Saturday, Dr. Navin will discuss circumstances and events that led to U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. He will describe political conditions, military strategies and major combat operations, the experience of soldiers and civilians, the role of the media, the rise of a powerful anti-war movement, the politics of withdrawal, and the war’s legacy. Veterans are especially invited to participate and to contribute to the discussion.
John J. Navin is a professor of history at Coastal Carolina University, where he teaches American history. He holds a master’s degree in American studies from Boston College and a Ph.D. in history from Brandeis University. Dr. Navin is the author of The Grim Years: Settling South Carolina, 1670-1720 (University of South Carolina Press, 2020).
