The Bureau of Land Management Montana/Dakotas is excited to launch its 2025 Wild Horse and Burro Adoption Event series with the Montana Kick-Off Adoption Event at the Hamilton, Montana Training Facility.

This event provides the public with the opportunity to adopt 37 wild horses, including yearlings, 2-5-year-old mares, and geldings. Prospective adopters will have the chance to view the animals, participate in a silent auction, and take part in a special “First Touch” training clinic led by the renowned mustang trainer, Mustang Matt. Admission is free to the public.

Event Schedule:

Mustang Matt “First Touch” Clinic: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
First Come/First Serve Adoption Event: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.

“Wild horses and burros are living symbols of the American West, and by adopting one, you’re becoming part of a legacy of resilience and freedom,” said Patrick Merrill, BLM Montana/Dakotas Wild Horse & Burro Coordinator. “These animals are smart, strong, and adaptable – making excellent companions for farms, ranches, or outdoor adventures.”

Applications can be submitted in advance at the Wild Horse and Burro Online Corral.
