What do you love about the ocean? This year on World Ocean Day, friends of the Center for Coastal Studies (CCS) and Payomet are gathering to share poems that express our ocean appreciation. Presenters will include Zoe Lewis, Stormy Mayo, Cody Sullivan, Debbie Nadolney, Bradford Lopes, Dennis Minsky, and more. Truro-based poet and naturalist Elizabeth Bradfield will be your host.
Inspired by Robert Pinsky’s Favorite Poem Project, beloved poems by Mary Oliver, Pablo Neruda, Aricelas Girmay, Alan Dugan, Marge Piercy, and others will fill the tent. The only rule is that poems recited are NOT poems the readers or their friends or relatives have written— but, rather poems you have read and to which you feel a personal attachment.
Bring your own favorite ocean-related poem to read in the open-mic or post on the sharing board. You will be given three minutes to share the poem and what it means to you. Signups will be taken at the door.
Come listen, imbibe, share, and commune!
Information about volunteering for CCS as well as their research will be available. This is a free event, however donations for CCS and Payomet will be gladly accepted.
The Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown is a non-profit organization dedicated to understanding, preserving and protecting marine ecosystems and the coastal environment through applied research, rescue and education.
