From: One-Act FestivalFamily Theatre presents our 2nd Annual One-Act Play Festival with two world premieres written by students from Columbus State University.
The first is The Trail’s End (the true story of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow) and Let Them Be Sea Captains (about the friendship between Ralph Waldo Emerson and Margaret Fuller). There are three performances.
ONE ACT FESTIVAL!
LET THEM BE SEA CAPTAINS, written by Katelyn McCormick and Emma Gaines, captures the essence of Margaret Fuller and Ralph Waldo Emerson from their initial meeting in 1835 until her death in 1844. Their discussion throughout the play revolves around Margaret and Emerson's opposing views: Margaret viewing society as the creator or destroyer of happiness and progress and Emerson viewing the individual as the creator or destroyer. Through their individual relationship, they reflect how men and women related in society during the time. The story is told by Margaret and Emerson, with Margaret correcting the narrative that Emerson is attempting to create. The viewer is unsure of how they are supposed to feel and who they are supposed to trust. The events and timeline selected provide a general, fictionalized introduction to Margaret Fuller.
THE TRAIL'S END, written by Mikayla Miller, presents a captivating one-act play that delves into the intriguing origins and dramatic encounters of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, intertwined with the transformation of Ted Hinton from a young, idealistic lawman into their relentless pursuer. As the tension escalates, the paths of Bonnie and Clyde and Ted Hinton intersect in a dramatic climax. The play builds towards a thrilling conclusion, culminating in the infamous ambush that brings an end to Bonnie and Clyde's reign and forever alters the lives of those involved. Set against the backdrop of the Great Depression, this production offers a poignant exploration of faith, love, and the complexities of justice.
