The goal of the Newport Irish Heritage Month calendar is to include "All things Irish" that will be occurring in the Newport, Rhode Island area throughout March. This includes events sponsored by organizations that promote Irish heritage, culture, and history, including the Museum of Newport Irish History, the sponsor of this calendar, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee. A complete list of participating organizations and businesses may be found at the end of this document.

Guided Tours of Fort Adams: 90 Fort Adams Drive, Newport. Take a guided tour of the historic Newport fort constructed with Irish labor between 1824-1857. Hour-long tours will be offered at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., on Saturdays and Sundays in March -- except Sat. March 16/Parade Day and Sun. Mar. 31/Easter -- weather permitting. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for Youth (ages 6-17), Free for Children 5 and under. $5 off individual tickets when mentioning Irish Heritage Month. "The Irish in America" Concert at Newport Public Library, 300 Spring Street, Newport. 2:30 p.m. Join Celtic harpist Mary King and guitarist Ed Sweeney for this musical journey. Get your green on, warm up your voices, and enjoy the warmth, spirit and hilarity of the ‘Irish in America.". Free and open to all. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner, sponsored by the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH). Doors open 4:30 p.m. Dinner served at 5:00 p.m. Location: St. Augustin’s Church Hall, corner Carroll Ave. and Harrison Ave., Newport. Enter church hall (basement of the church) via Eastnor Road entrance, adjacent to church parking lot. Live performances: Irish step-dancing, AOH Pipe Band, LAOH Singers. Parade Grand Marshal Roast: St. Augustin’s Church Hall, 2 Eastnor Road, corner of Carroll Ave. and Harrison Ave., Newport. The roast will honor the 2025 Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshal, Michael J. Henlyshyn. Starts at 5:30 p.m. and ends when all roasting is completed. 8 th Annual St. Patrick’s Parade Day Eve Celebration at Midtown Oyster Bar. 345 Thames St. Newport. 4:00-6:00 pm. The celebration will feature the Ancient Order of Hibernian’s (AOH) Pipes and Drums and the AOH Men’s Singers. There is no cover, but funds raised will go directly to the AOH Pipes and Drums band to support their equipment needs and travel expenses. Mass in Honor of St. Patrick and St. Brigid, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Broadway and Mann Ave., Newport (near City Hall), 9:00 a.m. Offered in memory of the deceased members of the Newport Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernian and deceased members of the former Newport Irish Heritage Association. 69th Annual Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade: 

Steps off from Newport City Hall, Broadway promptly at 11:00 a.m. and finishes at Saint Augustin’s Church on Carroll Avenue in the Fifth Ward. Irish American architect Patrick C. Keeley designed the church. Construction began in 1847 and was dedicated in 1852 to "The Holy Name of Mary, Our Lady of the Isle." Annual Trolley Tour of "Irish Newport": Departs from Hibernian Hall, 2 Wellington Ave., Newport at 1:00 p.m. sharp. Explore "Irish Newport" on this narrated tour by Mike Slein, presented by the Museum of Newport Irish History. The 2-hour tour will include stops at sites connected with Newport’s Irish heritage, including Forty Steps and the Barney Street Cemetery. Tours include an introductory visit to the Museum’s Interpretive Center on Lower Thames Street. Sponsored by Viking Tours of Newport in memory of Karen A. Oakley. Free, but gratuities for the driver are gratefully accepted. Reservations are a must as space is limited. Arrive no later than 12:45 pm to check in. Historic Irish Cemetery Tour: 1:00 p.m. Take a tour of the historic Saint Joseph Cemetery (known locally as the Barney Street Cemetery). Located at the corner of Barney and Mt. Vernon Streets in Newport, it is the oldest Catholic cemetery in Rhode Island and the site of the state’s first Catholic church (1828), which served Newport’s growing Irish immigrant community. The outdoor tour of approximately 30 minutes, given by a historian/guide, Steve Marino, and sponsored by the Museum of Newport Irish History, is held, weather permitting. Free. Dancing at the Forty Steps: Cliff Walk, east end of Narragansett Avenue, 3 p.m. Official close of the 48th Annual Newport Irish Heritage Month, commemorating the informal dances held there by the Irish who made Newport their home in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Sponsored by the Museum of Newport Irish History, the annual event will feature live traditional Irish music, demonstrations of Irish set dancing led by Donal and Mary Lehane, and the Ancient Order of Hibernian Men Singers.
