Government and Politics

November 3, 2024

Brown’s plan to gut the Department of Education would end federal funding for Nevada students and force massive budget cuts to schools

In the final 7 days leading up to the November election, we’re highlighting MAGA extremist Sam Brown’s 7 most extreme plans that will harm hardworking Nevadans.

On Nov 3rd, we’re looking at Brown’s extreme plan to fully eliminate the Department of Education, putting critical funding for Nevada schools, students, and teachers at risk. Brown’s extreme record includes:

  • Calling repeatedly to eliminate the Department of Education, including:
    • Saying he would get rid of federal agencies that have a state-level counterpart – specifically citing the Department of Education as one he would eliminate.
    • Saying “I think that we need to see a major reduction and potentially even an elimination of the Department of Education eventually.”
    • Agreeing that the Department of Education should be eliminated and said the idea “needs to be a bigger part of the conversation” in politics.
  • Supporting plans to force massive spending cuts across federal departments that would threaten the critical education funding that Nevada relies on.
    • Brown has acknowledged that his proposed federal spending cuts would be “painful.”

Brown’s plans to eliminate the U.S. The Department of Education would threaten $900 million per year in funding for Nevada schools and students. If Sam Brown had things his way, funding for Pell Grants, community colleges, special education, career and technical education, and other essential services for Nevada students would be on the chopping block.
