Statement on the Final Days of the Biden-Harris Administration

The South Dakota Democratic Party Chair Shane Merrill released the following statement on the final days of the Biden-Harris Administration.

“In just four years, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris pulled our country out of a devastating pandemic, improved infrastructure all over the nation, made healthcare more affordable for millions of Americans and negotiated the largest US-Russia prisoner swap that brought home several Americans. It is truly incredible what this administration has been able to accomplish, making positive impacts that will last for generations to come.”

Thanks to President Biden, South Dakota was able to make historic investments in our water infrastructure, including the Lewis and Clark Regional Water System completing a major milestone. South Dakotans on Medicare are also saving money on their prescriptions thanks to the dedication of this administration to bring down healthcare costs. President Biden also invested in our rural communities including upgrading the HVAC system for the White River School District and building a new facility for the Flandreau Fire Department. His administration also invested in our farmers and ranchers, improving fairness and competition in the market. I also commend Biden for starting the work of repairing relationships with Tribal Nations, healing deep seeded wounds.”

“The Biden-Harris Administration has accomplished a lot in just four years. I know right now inflation and high prices are still hurting families, but these investments will help Americans in the long run. I implore the incoming administration to let these policies stay and continue to improve our economy. I share President Biden’s concerns about the ultra-wealthy gaining unchecked power in our country, including billionaires like Elon Musk who already used his influence over our elected officials. I am also concerned about the growth of mis-and-dis-information online, especially as Facebook’s parent company Meta gets rid of fact-checking.”

“The South Dakota Democratic Party is committed to standing against any threats to our democracy, freedoms and basic rights. Democrats will fight for fair working conditions, healthy families, strong rural communities, lower costs, better health care and safety for ALL.”
