Health and Fitness

September 9, 2025

September 8,2025 -- Washington, DC – In a cornerstone of community – part playground, part meeting ground, Drug Free World DC joins the Vida Senior Center for its 12th Community Health Fair. It was a warm afternoon on the 5th of September at Guy Mason Recreational Park where the community came together for the Community Health Fair in which they not only where it offered not only free health screenings and flu shots or a mariachi band filling the air with iconic Latin melodies, but also the Truth About Drugs.

Vida Senior Centers (VIDA) -formerly known as EOFULA (Educational Organization for United Latin Americans, Inc.)- was founded in 1969, and is the oldest Hispanic non-profit organization in Washington D.C. For over fifty years, its team of experts has been dedicated to providing services to seniors in order to promote their physical and emotional wellbeing through culturally and linguistically appropriate programs and services. It has been hosting community health fairs in DC for 12 years now.

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World is a nonprofit public benefit corporation that empowers youth and adults with factual information about drugs – the Truth About Drugs materials and program – so they can make informed decisions to be drug-free.

Headquartered in Los Angeles, California, the foundation provides Truth About Drugs educational materials, advice and coordination – all free of charge – to educators, volunteers and professionals, making it the world’s largest nongovernmental drug information and prevention initiative.

The Truth About Drugs educational materials include an award-winning educational documentary, 17 public service announcements that speak to youth, a series of 15 Truth About Drugs booklets on commonly abused drugs including Fentanyl and a full curriculum of lessons for educators.

Drug abuse is a global problem requiring a global solution.

Studies show that when young people are provided the truth about drugs – factual information about what drugs really are and what they do – usage rates drop commensurately.

Hence, the Foundation for a Drug-Free World provides drug education materials that get results: the Truth About Drugs program. It stands as proof that the most effective weapon in combating drug abuse is education.

The foundation works with anyone, anywhere who wants to help youth lead lives free from drug abuse.

Hence, Drug-Free World DC was happy to join the Vida Senior Center for its 12th Community Health Fair. The annual Community Health Fair empowers seniors with free screenings, wellness activities, and culturally attuned resources—strengthening health and community in one place.
