Washington, DC — On Sunday, October 19, 2025, in front of the U.S. Capitol, the Way to Happiness Chapter – Washington, DC helped spread the message of happiness and how to achieve it, through the book written by L. Ron Hubbard.
L. Ron Hubbard wrote The Way to Happiness: A Common Sense Guide to Better Living in 1981. It has now been translated into over 100 different languages. For over 40 years, the book has been used by millions to successfully steer their way through the chaotic, dishonest and immoral society that faces all of us at times, to arrive at true happiness.
People of all walks of life have read and then incorporated the 21 precepts into their lives — resulting in improved relationships, increased competence and efficiency, and better personal health and private-life outcomes. These 21 precepts, or guiding principles, may well comprise a non-religious moral code, one attuned to a world desperately in need of a moral compass.
In fact, in Washington, DC before the Way to Happiness DC project of mailing The Way to Happiness booklets to every DC resident, the crime situation was more serious. For example, in 2023 the city recorded approximately 274 homicides. By the end of 2024 violent crime in Washington, DC was down 35% from 2023 and the number of homicides dropped to approximately 187.
Now that they have mailed over 275,000 Way to Happiness booklets to DC residents, the crime data show continued positive trends: as of August 2025, for example, the region (Washington, DC area) saw a 13 % drop in overall crime compared with the same period in 2024. Violent crime in DC is at a more than 30-year low.
To continue with their purpose of helping people live happier and more fulfilling lives, the chapter also engages in booklet distributions — including the Sunday distribution in front of the U.S. Capitol.
