February may be the shortest month of the year, but we’re not short on ways for you to participate, connect, and discover this month! Celebrate Black History Month with library programs all month long. Tour Sarah's Sweetwater Greenway Loop during a multi-day festival. Participate in a job fair, share your love of the library, and take your research to the next level with Gale in Context: Biography.
Celebrating Black History Month
Each February, we celebrate Black History Month by recognizing and honoring the outstanding contributions that Black Americans have made to American history and culture. At the Library District, we're celebrating by promoting Black stories in our collection and related programs.
Try a library program at one of our 12 library locations to celebrate Black history and culture. Join us for African American Read-Ins, movie matinees, art workshop, and much more!
Tour the Loop
Celebrate Gainesville's unique environmental and civic heritage at Sarah's Sweetwater Greenway Loop Festival. This collaborative project provides residents the opportunity to come together as a community and add their voices and ideas to the visioning process of the greenway. The Festival includes a series of mini-festivals open to the public:
Thursday, Feb. 16 — Springhill
Friday, Feb. 17 — Artist Exhibition in the Power District
Saturday, Feb. 18 — Pleasant St. / 5th Ave.
Sunday, Feb. 19 — S.E. Historic District & Duckpond
Monday, Feb. 20 — Grove Street
The locally-produced film "Sarah's Place" will be screened each night of the festival, highlighting the vision of one of Gainesville's historic Black businesswomen.
Meet the Employers
Are you looking for new employment opportunities in Alachua County? Come to the library!
The Library District will host a community job fair Friday, Feb. 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 pm. at the Headquarters Library in Meeting Room A. Employers will be available to take resumes and talk directly with job seekers. There will be a variety of employers attending the event, including several from the public service sector.
No registration is required to attend the job fair.

February isn't just for Valentine's Day and lovers of romance. It's also for lovers of libraries! National Library Lovers Month is a time to celebrate all things to do with our beloved libraries, the librarians, staff, and volunteers that care for them, and the patrons and community that love them.

Gale in Context: Biography is a research resource of more than 650,000 biographical entries covering international figures from all time periods and areas of study. It offers reference content for more than 400,000 figures, as well as magazine and journal articles, primary sources, videos, audio podcasts, and a vast array of images. It is continuously updated to ensure that researchers have access to the latest information.
