Alaska Hummingbird Festival Juried Art Show Opening - 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Join us for the opening reception of the annual Alaska Hummingbird Festival Juried Art Show, hosted by the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center, Cape Fox Foundation, and the Ketchikan Visitors Bureau. Enjoy amazing artwork submitted from around Alaska. Cast your vote to determine the winners of the People's Choice Award and discover the winners in Adult Best of Show, Juvenile Best of Show, Adult First Prize, Juvenile First Prize, Adult Honorable Mention, Juvenile Honorable Mention categories.

Birding at Rotary Beach - 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Meet at Rotary Beach for a guided bird walk with biologists. Spotting scopes will be available for close-up views or bring your own binocular. Alaska birding life list, brochures, and migratory bird information booklets will be available.

Birds on the Big Screen - 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Join the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center Rangers for hot chocolate and bird themed documentaries on the big screen in the Discovery Center Theater.

Feathered Friends Ranger Program: Birding 101 - 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Join Ranger Nicole for a 30-minute, interactive interpretive program about how to get into birding, the fun hobby of observing birds in nature. All ages welcome.

Friday Night Insight: Sasquatch: Legends & myths meet science - 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Join Rob Holston for an entertaining 45-minute collision of contradictory yet collaborative evidence surrounding Bigfoot. Featuring publications by Dr. Rob Alley, Dr. Matt Johnson & Dr. Jeff Meldrum.

Fascinating IM Index evidence exposed. Bigfoot DNA controversy explained. Plus, locals with Bigfoot encounters will be invited to share and enjoy a Q&A session.

Ever wonder why bird eggs come in so many colors and shapes? Join Ranger Hazel for a 30-minute, interactive interpretive program about migratory bird eggs. All ages welcome.

Friday Night Insight: The Ties that Bind: a short history of Ketchikan’s service clubs - 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

For over 100 years, Ketchikan has been home to service clubs—Rotary, Eagles, Lions, and other organizations—which have enhanced our community in countless ways. First City Rotarian Pat Tully will talk about the history of these clubs in Ketchikan and how they help strengthen community cohesiveness.

Join the SEADC team and Ketchikan Misty Fjords Ranger District team for migratory bird activities and bird watching at the Discovery Center.

Join Ranger Hazel for a 30-minute, interactive interpretive program on bird foot shapes and prints. Make a bird footprint bookmark with your favorites. All ages welcome.

Friday Night Insight: Living in Bear Country, Bear Safety - 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Join the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and the USDA Forest Service for a presentation on bear safety and awareness in the SEADC Theater. Biologists will explain how to stay safe in bear country while hiking and tips and tricks to keep bears out of attractants in town like garbage cans.
