American Red Cross CrossNotes News: July 2025

Clubs and Organizations

July 11, 2025

Our hearts are with the families devastated by the recent floods in Texas, who are facing unimaginable loss of life and community.

We are working side by side with our partners to support emergency relief and reunification as we attempt to help reconnect families and loved ones. At the same time, Red Crossers are on the ground in other parts of the country where communities are experiencing or recovering from disasters including wildfires, tornadoes and flash floods.

Whether it’s a tornado, a flood, a home fire or some other disaster, disaster preparedness can save lives and protect communities. Find the most common emergencies in your area and get tips for preparedness steps you can take today.

We are so grateful for the outpouring of support we’ve received from across the country, and we will continue to keep you updated in the days and weeks ahead.

Why I Give…

Dave Dunn’s Two Decades of Service

READ HIS STORY

A Red Crosser for more than two decades, Dave Dunn was a New Yorker living in the city in September 2001. Immediately after 9/11, he first tried to give blood and was then inspired to volunteer. Dave became a Disaster Action Team member for the Greater New York Region of the Red Cross, responding to home fires and other emergencies to provide support to those affected. As new opportunities presented themselves, Dave knew the Red Cross was an organization he eventually wanted to work for.

Due to his background, he secured the next step in his Red Cross journey as director of disaster staffing and partner groups at his local chapter. Years later, the opportunity came up for him to deploy for a month to the Philippines to support the local Red Cross Society in response to Super Typhoon Haiyan. Read more about Dave’s story and his first international deployment.
