Help families impacted by disasters big and small.
$200 = One day and three meals in a shelter for a family of four.
When a family finds their way to an American Red Cross shelter, they leave behind their home and sometimes even their community. Depending on the damage, many won’t return for weeks, months or even years. As families along the Florida Panhandle brace for Hurricane Helene, the third hurricane to hit their community this year, many counties have received evacuation orders despite still rebuilding from previous storms.
Disasters never take a break, James, and Red Cross disaster workers are also actively helping individuals and families recover from wildfires in the west, storms in the south and extreme heat across much of the country. We are preparing to open dozens more shelters in addition to those currently on the ground as dangerous weather will persist over the next few days and into the weekend, and we need your help.
From the moment someone arrives in a Red Cross shelter, they’ll be greeted with compassion and warmth. They’ll have someone to help, a shoulder to cry on or a friend to confide in. They’ll receive blankets, a warm place to sleep, three meals a day, snacks and drinks. They’ll have the opportunity to gather their thoughts and discuss their next steps with experts who can help them get the resources they need.
And every day, it’s all made possible by people like you. Yet every day, we face more frequent and intense disasters due to the climate crisis. We’re ready to do whatever it takes to meet this need — but we’re counting on your support.
Just $200 provides a full day of meals and shelter for a family of four. For those who have just faced the devastation of a disaster, these comforts can mean everything.
That’s why I’m urgently asking for your help: Will you give now to help us deliver lifesaving relief and shelter to families impacted by storms, floods, home fires and other disasters across the country?
