Arizona Republicans Join Trump-Musk Administration’s All-Out Assault on Social Security and Medicare

Government and Politics

March 11, 2025

One year ago, Donald Trump told Arizonans he’d be open to “cutting” Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. This week, Elon Musk is doubling down on the threat, calling for “eliminating critical programs that serve thousands of working families in Arizona.

Donald Trump and unelected billionaire Elon Musk plan to cut Social Security and Medicare. Arizona Republicans praise Elon Musk and his mission to cut Arizonans’ healthcare:

  • David Schweikert called his involvement in the Government “wonderful.”
  • Juan Ciscomani said he was “thrilled” to work with DOGE and Elon Musk in their pursuit to fire federal workers and cut Social Security and Medicare.
  • Andy Biggs has praised Elon Musk’s “amazing work” and thanked him for his “service to our nation.”

A year ago today, Donald Trump said that “there is a lot you can do” to cut Medicare and Social Security for millions of Americans. Arizona Republicans have been in lockstep with his all-out assault on Social Security and Medicare:

  • David Schweikert, Juan Ciscomani, and Andy Biggs all voted for the house budget that makes severe cuts to Medicaid, ripping away health care for over 600,000 Arizonans.
  • David Schweikert criticized the House budget that rips Medicaid for78,000 people and takes food off the table for nearly 19,000 households in AZ-01, saying, “I wish there were more cuts.”
  • David Schweikert and Juan Ciscomani are on the Republican Study Committee (RSC), which has proposed raising the retirement age to 69.

As over 10,000 Arizonans apply for unemployment, inflation skyrockets, and Arizonans fear for their Social Security benefits. David Schweikert, Juan Ciscomani, and Andy Biggs have hid from Arizonans and are not holding any in-person town halls.
