Take an Art Break and explore the Counter/Balance exhibition with Carla Funk

Saturday, December 16 noon–1pm
Free for Members or included with Museum admission

Join Carla Funk, curator of the exhibition Counter/Balance: Gifts from John and Robyn Horn, for this month’s Art Break as she leads a gallery talk about the works in the exhibition.

Over the past twenty years, Carla Funk has taught college-level courses in Art History and curated numerous contemporary art exhibitions with a special focus on women artists and global textile arts. She spearheaded efforts to build the first campus art gallery at the Florida Institute of Technology, where she was the founding director of the Center for Textile Arts in 2009 and served as executive director and chief curator of University Museums from 2011 to 2020.

Laura Boswell performs folk music with a classical twist

December Live Music Series: Laura Boswell
Thursday, December 21  6–8pm
Free for Members or included with Museum admission

Laura Boswell, on guitar, will be playing intimate folk music with classical influence that has been described as meditative, transcendental, and within the “chamber-folk” genre. This performance will take place in the Museum’s Windgate Foundation Atrium.

Makerspace: Create your own holiday card
Thursday, December 21 5–8pm

Free for Museum Members or included with general admission

This drop-in style open studio will teach you how to create unique, collage-style holiday cards rooted in self-expression.

Inspired by the collaged artworks on view in the Museum’s exhibition Romare Bearden: Ways of Working.

Public Tour: Discovering Art in Asheville
Thursday, December 21 6–7pm

Free for Museum Members or included with general admission

Take in the Museum’s Collection of American art of the 20th and 21st centuries, exploring the connection between art and artists of Western North Carolina, Southern Appalachia and the US at large.

Join us for an afternoon of art-filled fun at Winter Art Camp

Let’s turn your child’s holiday season into an adventure to remember! Students in grades K–2 and 3–5 are invited to join our educators for an afternoon of art-filled fun. Students spend their time in the Museum’s Studio creating art with a variety of media.

Please note:

 - Students are encouraged to wear clothes that can get messy.

 - Students are welcome to bring a snack, as we usually break at 2:30pm.

Make your own hot cocoa creation in Perspective Café

Every weekend in December
11am–3pm in the rooftop Perspective Café

Unlock the joy and creative spirit of the holidays while also supporting the Museum’s mission! Start your winter cocoa creation by choosing between traditional or white hot chocolate as your base. Next, decorate your creation with all kinds of toppings, including crushed peppermints, butterscotches, caramel syrup, mini marshmallows, candy canes, sprinkles, and more.
