Not-Your-Average Fusion Intro Class (Consent class)
Vanessa Yxcea
This is not an instructional dance-movement class. Rather, this class is an introduction to some of the social core values of fusion dancing: authenticity, boundaries, and consent. We will be setting the tone for an evening full of both new and rekindled dance connections, of establishing and honoring boundaries, and of proactive curiosity to explore our movement expression, our community, and ourselves. This class is a facilitated practice to role play and explore real-life scenarios you may encounter on the social floor over the weekend, such as declining a dance or how to accommodate a partner with specific boundaries.

Micro Room:
My Micro Mantra Karen Jang
Micro; intention and focus. It is the quieting of our minds, the feeling of our bodies, the peace that comes with presence. At its heart, Micro is the art of mindfulness in motion. This class is my personal philosophy of Micro and how we apply that to all of our dancing. Make the most of every move to maximize conversation. Move at the speed of connection to synchronize your journey.

3:45-5pm

Fusion Room:
Mirroring and Matching William Wagert
finding connection through matching our partners body and then learning to diversify through adapting and suggesting change in the partners body.

Enhanced confidence leads to better dances. Be memorable on the dance floor, by learning the structure of"A Good Dance". Be a force that helps shape Partner Fusion into the future by learning how to stay true to your movement in a partnership. Learn the definition of terms taught to professional dancers from a variety of styles.

Micro Room:
Isolations and Body Mechanics Angel Kim Spicer
The ability to isolate specific parts of the body from one another will unlock a new world of movement, aesthetics, and possibilities in your dancing. Refining these body mechanics will not only teach you how to create precise patterns and movements in your own or another’s body, but will also make learning new movement styles easier, visibly improve your own quality of movement, and open new frontiers that you and your dance can play within. We’ll explore isolations throughout the whole body, leading and following these isolations, and concatenating different isolations into dynamic combinations.

Sunday Class Schedule

2:15-3:30pm

Fusion Room:
Catch and Create Tzoul
Send your partner into a free spin, catch em and create. How good does it feel to send it, and send it again. Working with magnetic forces gives your relationship room to stretch, then compress and play with the electricity generated. Catching someone in motion is about releasing fear and trusting your inside-tuition. Follow the momentum of the partnership, grip firmly to your balance, and ease into the possibility of any direction. Lead Follow based curriculum, no experience required.

Micro Room:
What Box? (Creativity & Accessibility) Vanessa Yxcea
What is limiting the expansion and creativity of our dance? What makes us feel stuck, trapped, or "boxed in" to our old habits? In this class we will acknowledge and examine the boxes that confine our creative potential. Through a series of curiosity-driven exploratory dance games, we will challenge each other to deconstruct our boxes so we can freely “Dance Outside The Box!” As time allows, we will also reconstruct new boxes that we actually enjoy playing in, “If we fits, we sits! I mean, we dance!”

3:45-5pm

Fusion Room:
Do Cool Sh*t / Make The Dance You Want to Have Angel Kim Spicer
Incorporate solo movement and styling choices into the context of partnership! Learn how to have nuanced, two-way conversations, practice active speaking and listening while leading or following, and throw in your own movement and styling choices without disrupting the connection point or your partnership - unless you want to! Take agency and ownership over what you can control in your own dancing and have the fun, creative, and expressive dances you want - regardless of the skill, imagination, or movement choices of your partner.

Micro Room:
Micro Harmonies Karen Jang
We often say dance is a conversation but a unique thing in Micro is that you do not need a lead/follow dynamic. The movements are so small you can actually whisper at the same time. Instead of talking, it becomes more like singing. You can sing the same part, sing harmonies, or sing different parts entirely. Come learn how to tune your movements and responses to create beautiful harmonies together.

Micro Room:
Turn Techniques Jana Matthews
Have you ever wanted to do those cool multiple spins, but always fall out of them or don’t know how to lead them? In this class we will learn techniques from ballet, Modern, and jazz dance to perfect our turns and spins. We’ll start off with solo exercises and then go into partner work.
