Visit the library now through September 6 to experience portraits of farm animals by local photographer Judy Brown. See these wonderful creatures in new ways. Marvel at their unique personalities and expressions. Admire their glorious colors. Judy has gotten to know these rescue animals over a decade of visiting Weatherbury Farm in South Natick and Unity Farm Sanctuary in Sherborn. Learn more about Judy and her work on our website.

Story Time
Tuesdays at 10:00 am

Join us on the Bacon Free Library lawn for stories, songs, and rhymes. Bring along a blanket to get comfy. We are looking forward to seeing you! Note: if the weather is wet or below 55 degrees, we’ll move this story time indoors.

Baby Time
Wednesdays at 10:00 am *PLEASE NOTE NEW DAY!

Join us for a cozy storytime filled with lap bounces, rhymes, songs, and simple stories. Geared toward infants and young toddlers with their grownups.


Mystery Book Club
Thursday, September 7 at 1:00 pm

Jammin With You
Friday, September 8 at 10:30 am

Be prepared to laugh, dance, sing, and jam your way through 30 minutes of non-stop family fun on the library lawn! This performance is geared toward kids ages 1–7, but fun for the whole family. If the weather is wet or below 55 degrees, we’ll move indoors and space will be available on a first come, first served basis. Bring your own simple instruments if you can! Sponsored by Middlesex Savings Bank.


Upcoming Art Exhibit: Barbara Levine
On display September 7 to October 18

Beginning September 7, stop by the library to view the works of artist Barbara Levine. Barbara paints in oils and in gouache and learned to paint primarily “en plein air” in a New England impressionist tradition, which has been a wonderful adventure for her.
Art Reception on Tuesday, September 12: Join us at Bacon Free Library from 5:30 to 6:30 pm for a reception to welcome Barbara Levine and her art show “Here and There.”

Dog Tales Storytime
Monday, September 11 at 10:00 am

Muri and her human Cheryl will be visiting the BFL for a fun and furry storytime! Join us for dog-approved stories and a chance to pet this calm, sweet, and soft therapy dog. This program will be held outside on the library lawn, so bring a blanket or chair and look for us around back! If it is rainy or less than 55 degrees, the storytime will be moved indoors.

Friends of the BFL Meeting
Wednesday, September 13 at 1:00 pm

The Friends of the BFL are seeking new volunteers! If you love books, libraries, and community outreach, we invite you to attend the meeting and join this dynamic group in supporting the BFL! Volunteer opportunities include planning and promoting fundraising initiatives, participating in town-wide events, and more.

Read to a Dog
Friday, September 16, 10:00 to 11:15 am

Build confidence and practice your reading skills by reading out loud to a registered therapy dog! Children ages 5 and up can sign up for a 15 minute reading session with Sophie, a gentle golden retriever who loves belly rubs, stories, and cuddles. Registration is required and opens one month before the program. Please visit our website to sign up for a time slot; please register for each child attending.


Virtual Program - James Herriot: The Simple Life of the World's Most Famous Veterinarian

Join Anglophile and former UK resident Claire Evans as she recounts the life and times of Alf Wight, an unassuming country veterinarian who practiced for 50 years in one of England’s most beautiful places, the Yorkshire Dales. He rose to international fame later in life under the pen name James Herriot as he recounted the heartwarming animal stories and colorful characters of a bygone era, inspiring films and multiple television series.
