From: Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center

Livermore, CA -- After ‘breaking out the champagne’ to toast the New Year, Livermore Valley Arts is thrilled to welcome and to kick off the 2025 portion of its Bankhead Presents lineup with music concerts and stars that will keep the party going this January. From the much-requested return of Jim Curry and his previous Bankhead hot seller Take Me Home: The Music of John Denver on Saturday, January 4, to the most successful music group in the history of America’s Got Talent The Texas Tenors on Friday, January 17, January will start out with some amazing performances that will fill the hearts of audiences with joy. This musical month closes out with Best New Artist GRAMMY Award-winner Colin Hay (of Men at Work fame) on Friday, January 24, along with the return of Classic Albums Live, this time to perform in full Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Texas Flood, on Friday, January 31, bringing The Bankhead alive with delights for the ears and nostalgia for the heart, right here in the Tri-Valley. All of these exciting concerts  ill be at the beautiful Bankhead Theater in Downtown Livermore.

The music of the late John Denver is like an old friend, outlasting trends and standing the test of time, one of the most beloved singer/songwriters ever to grace the stage. Tribute artist and acclaimed performer Jim Curry, whose voice was heard in the CBS-TV movie Take Me Home: The John Denver Story has performed Denver’s music in sold-out shows throughout the country and has emerged as today’s top performer of Denver’s vast legacy of multi-platinum hits. Returning on January 4 after early 2023’s acclaimed Livermore performance, Jim is back with his uncanny ability to mirror John’s voice and clean-cut look, taking audiences back to the time when “Rocky Mountain High,” “Sunshine,” “Calypso,” and “Annie’s Song” topped the charts, and his popular music had the heartfelt message of caring for the earth and caring for each other. In Take Me Home: The Music of John Denver, as a life-long fan, Curry dedicates himself to continuing John Denver’s legacy of songs and his message of love and caring for our planet to future generations. Since 2002, the combined talents of Jim and his band have brought the music of America’s Troubadour back to thousands upon thousands of people. Curry also works behind the scenes to preserve Denver’s music, most notably his collaboration with Lee Holdridge in rebuilding and preserving Denver’s original symphony arrangements. Jim Curry was a key performer in the induction of John Denver to the Colorado Music Hall of Fame show hosted by Olivia Newton John, and Curry was also the host of the official John Denver Estate show which toured the United States and Australia. Jim’s latest project is titled “Such a Wild Place,” and was produced by two of John Denver’s band members, Pete Huttlinger and Chris Nole, including four original songs co-written by Jim Curry and also including three unreleased songs written by John Denver. Growing audiences all over the world, Jim is honored to have had John Denver band members join him in some of the most prestigious venues in the country, and The Bankhead is thrilled to start off January with this much-anticipated return. Tickets for this performance are almost sold out.

America’s Favorite Tenors, Billboard #1 Recording Artists, 3-time Emmy Award-winners, and 2022 Texas Country Music Hall of Fame Inductees, The Texas Tenors will be bringing their 15th Anniversary Tour to The Bankhead on January 17. The Texas Tenors are the most successful music group and third highest selling artist in the history of America’s Got Talent. Since appearing on the series in 2009, JC Fisher, Marcus Collins, and John Hagen have performed close to 2,000 concerts, recorded 5 studio albums, produced 2 PBS Specials, and have written two hit children’s books that have earned them impressive recognition, including 3 Emmy Awards, The Gelett Burgess Award for Excellence in Children’s Literature, and the distinction of being Billboard Magazine’s #10 Classical Artist in the World. The Tenors’ most recent albums “Outside the Lines,” “Rise,” and “A Collection of Broadway and American Classics” all debuted at #1 on the Billboard Charts. These classically trained, versatile tenors were recently honored to be included among the top 50 acts in the world and were the only vocal group from the United States invited to appear on NBC’s America’s Got Talent: The Champions. Featuring Josh “4 Hands” Hanlon on Piano, Larry Hanson on Guitars, and Pete Generous on Drums, the 15th Anniversary Tour will bring new music along with rousing patriotic favorites and everything from Country to Classical, mesmerizing audiences with their humor and charm, along with their vocal prowess. Tri-Valley audiences are invited to come celebrate with the boys and make some new and lasting memories at a concert experience they’ll never forget. As one audience member so perfectly summed up, “don’t let the hats fool ya, these boys can really sing!”

On January 24, a true music luminary will be enchanting Downtown Livermore. Colin Hay’s performances are buoyant and full of life, drawing on vintage pop charm, pub rock muscle, and folk sincerity to forge a sound that’s at once playful and profound, clever and compassionate, whimsical and earnest, and he will be bringing all that energy to The Bankhead. Born in Scotland, Hay moved with his family as a teenager to Australia, where he first came to international fame with seminal ’80s hitmakers Men At Work. While the band would reach the heights of stardom—they took home a GRAMMY Award for Best New Artist and sold more than 30 million records worldwide on the strength of #1 singles like “Who Can It Be Now?” and “Down Under”—by 1985, they’d called it quits and gone their separate ways. Hay released his solo debut the following year and, over the course of the next three-and-a-half decades, went on to record twelve more critically acclaimed studio albums that would help establish him as one of his generation’s most hardworking and reliable craftsmen. Rolling Stone praised his “witty, hooky pop” tunes, while NPR’s World Café lauded his “distinctive voice,” and late night hosts from David Letterman and Craig Ferguson to Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel have all welcomed him for performances. Over the course of his remarkable solo career, Hay developed a reputation as a gifted raconteur with serious comedy chops, and his frequent appearances at LA’s Largo club helped garner him a legion of fans in the entertainment world. Among them was actor/director Zach Braff, who called Hay’s mix of heartfelt songwriting and hilarious storytelling “one of the most amazing things I had ever seen.” Braff would go on to feature Hay’s music prominently in the GRAMMY-winning soundtrack for Garden State and invite him to appear as himself on the hit series Scrubs, which helped introduce his music to a whole new generation of listeners. On top of his rigorous schedule as a solo artist, Hay has also managed to tour the world several times over with Ringo Starr & His All–Star Band, release an audiobook of Aesop’s Fables, star in the award-winning documentary Waiting For My Real Life, and even provide the voice for Fergus Flamingo in Disney’s The Wild. Don’t miss this absolute music legend in his Tri-Valley appearance. Tickets for this performance are almost sold out.

Classic Albums Live is thrilled to be coming back to The Bankhead, this time bringing to life Texas Flood. Performing this iconic debut album from Stevie Ray Vaughan in its entirety—exactly as you remember it—note for note, cut for cut, this will be an unforgettable night for not just Stevie Ray Vaughan fans, but for all music lovers. Called “joyful and thrilling” by the Toronto Star, “perfect” by the Chicago Tribune, and hailed for their “amazing musicianship“ by the Orlando Sentinel, founded in Toronto in 2003 by Craig Martin, Classic Albums Live has become a beloved fixture in the music world, having delivered over 3,000 shows across the US and Canada. “We live in a unique time in history,” said Mr. Martin. “We have a new canon of music that has become ‘classic’ in our culture. Our role is to be stewards of these great albums, allowing people to experience them together and to hear the songs just as they were intended and recorded. We pride ourselves on doing this note-for-note, cut-for-cut. Classic Albums Live has been able to deliver top-tier events due to the 100 or so seasoned and award-winning musicians who are part of the production company. “We’re careful not to impart any personality on this music,” Martin says. “That is our mission statement. We think of ourselves as curators. We govern ourselves like an orchestra. The impact of our musicianship—coupled with these great works of art—is unparalleled. People care deeply about this music. It’s a joy to be able to properly share it with audiences.” Do not miss this extraordinary opportunity to experience Texas Flood in a truly remarkable way on January 31.
