February 2024
A Note from the Director
Dear Friends:
One of the fun things that we get to do here at the Museum is recognize important dates, events, and anniversaries in our community. In fact, just this weekend the beaches community will be celebrating a (somewhat) belated 90th Anniversary of Pete's Bar and the 17th running of the DONNA Marathon!
The collective recognition of these events and institutions allow us to reflect on our past, together, and to celebrate what has shaped us as a community.
Coming up in March, The PLAYERS Championship will be celebrating it's 50th year! This event has brought not only world-class golf and an international spotlight to our area, but has sparked a tremendous investment in charities across Northeast Florida. We are honored to be among them and this year, we have added "Chip in for Charity" as a way for you to support The PLAYERS and the Museum at the same time!
More information can be found below and we look forward to many more recognitions and celebrations with you throughout this year!
Sincerely,
Chris Hoffman
Executive Director
Current Exhibit: "Golden Hour Dwelling" by Rebecca Lemmon
Closes on February 18!
In a continued celebration of local artists, Beaches Museum is proud to present the work of Rebecca Lemmon.
About the Artist: Discover the art of Rebecca Lemmon, a local painter whose work celebrates "the faithful simplicity of daily life." A graduate of Flagler College, Rebecca taught painting and drawing for 10 years at Episcopal School of Jacksonville. Her latest work highlights how “ordinary days have their own glory," celebrating the light-dappled beauty of domestic and botanical scenes. Lemmon’s immersive artistry invites the viewer to experience how the simple evokes the sublime.
"Golden Hour Dwelling" is on display in the Museum's lobby and Dickinson Gallery.
Special thanks to the GFWC Jacksonville Beaches Woman's Club for making this exhibit possible.

Opening Reception: Join Museum members, supporters, and patrons for a first look featuring a tasting and recipes from the exhibit on Friday, February 23 at 6:00 p.m. at the Beaches Museum. RSVP by selecting the button below.
About the Exhibit: Take a journey through tastes and time to see how Beaches food is as diverse as the people who have called the community home throughout the years.
Many cultures have had an impact on our community’s cuisine, from the early Mocama people who first lived along the shores of the St. Johns River and the Atlantic Ocean, to the Minorcan, Danish, and Filipino residents of the Beaches.
Food is a bridge between centuries and cultures, a language spoken in spices and simmered in traditions passed from cook to cook. From the crackling fires of Timucua villages to the bustling kitchens of modern restaurants, learn how the act of preparing and sharing a meal has bound us together for generations.

Leave Your Mark! Buy a Brick!
Show your Beaches Museum pride, memorialize a loved one, or celebrate something special by having your message displayed on a commemorative brick to be installed inside our Train Enclosure.
Engraved on your brick could be a name, a message, a business, or something else entirely! Whatever you decide, your brick will serve as a visible reminder of your commitment to the Museum and the Beaches area.
Every brick has a story. Write yours and make your mark as a part of the Beaches Museum. History is in the making, and this is your chance to memorialize the things that matter most to you. Your brick will be a place where the past meets the future in a perfectly preserved moment as a permanent part of Beaches history.
