Kids Art Class

For First and Second Graders

In this class students will engage with the foundations of art as they explore their creativity! This series is designed to be fun and focused on student choice as they create art that is unique to them. In this 6 week series, we will mostly focus on 2D art including observational drawing, printmaking, painting, and blind contour. We will also spend some time observing other artists' work to understand composition, color, and how art can make us feel.

English Paper Piecing Workshop

Date: Tuesday February 4

Discover the art of English Paper Piecing (EPP), a relaxing and portable quilting technique that uses paper templates to create intricate fabric designs. Perfect for beginners and seasoned crafters alike, this workshop will guide you through the basics of hand-stitching fabric around paper shapes to form stunning geometric designs. Join us to learn this timeless craft and connect with fellow enthusiasts!

Pysanky, also known as Ukrainian eggs, are created using a process similar to batik. Patterns are drawn on the egg with hot beeswax, which then protects the covered areas from the dye that is applied. By repeating this process with different colors of dye, a multi-colored pattern is built up. The wax is removed at the end to reveal the colors that were covered up at each stage. A great deal of patience and concentration is required to complete a single egg, but it is very rewarding to reveal your hard work when the wax is taken off. All skill levels and ages can create an original pysanka.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or have some experience with painting, this workshop will help you get comfortable with acrylics and teach you how to create an original piece of artwork on canvas. Acrylics are a versatile and fast-drying medium that offers endless creative possibilities. In this step-by-step process, you’ll learn how to use this medium to its fullest potential, from setting up your workspace to finishing your final painting.

Jimmy Maywalt, your host for the show, is a comic, actor, and writer. He can be seen on the NoFiltr Comedy series and performing at various clubs in NY and NJ, but most importantly, you will find him right here at the Belmar Arts Center.

Mike Hernandez-feature Comic- is a native New Yorker who entertains his audience with his unique blend of life experiences that are a result of growing up in Puerto Rico and Brooklyn, New York. He can be seen throughout New York’s five boroughs and has performed at well-known comedy clubs, including New York Comedy Club, The Comic Strip, Greenwich Village Comedy Club, and Stand Up New York. Mike co-hosted both the New York Silly podcast and We’re Going to Hell podcast and is co-founder of New York Silly, a comedy production venture.

Anissa Stone-

Bringing laughter from the everyday, Anissa finds comedy in life's little moments. New to standup comedy but not to making people laugh, she has trained with various comedy and improv teams in NY and NJ and has been performing in the tri-state for years.
