The festival kicks off on Saturday evening, August 17th at 6:00 at the Gem Theater, with a live presentation by the New York Times bestselling author and naturalist, Sy Montgomery. Sy will be talking about her latest book, Of Time and Turtles: Mending the World, Shell by Shattered Shell.

Here are 5 key insights from her book:
- Even common animals we might take for granted are astonishing wonders, and worthy of our awe.
- What looks like a hopeless disaster may instead be turned into a real-life miracle
- Anyone can make a difference that can last for generations, and heroes come in all different forms.
- Time, too, has many different guises.
- Taking a hand at mending our broken world is the best way to restore our own souls.
Joining Sy on the stage will be staff from the Turtle Rescue League along with three turtle ambassadors!

Doors open at 5:00 for pizza and beer followed by the presentation at 6:00. Books will be for sale.

Opening Remarks: Bryan Wentzell, Executive Director of the Maine Mountain Collaborative and serves on the  Conservation Delegation to the Wabanaki Commission on Land and Stewardship.
Bryan will discuss: Why should we as land trusts/land conservation folks engage with Wabanaki, re-learning, and sharing land and access.
