Brian Kemp’s Georgia: Tariffs Drag Down the Economy as CDC 'Right-Sizing' Creates Massive Health and Safety Risks

Government and Politics

Kemp recently “sidestepped a direct answer” on Trump’s tariffs

Kemp’s only comment on the Trump administration’s sweeping cuts has been to say that “government can stand a little rightsizing”

It’s been a tough news week for Brian Kemp-backed policies as headline after headline has brought to light the real-life impacts of the Trump administration’s tariffs and federal agency cuts that are directly impacting Georgians across the state.

In case you missed it:

  • The Georgia Chamber of Commerce released a report detailing how Trump’s tariffs are putting Georgia industries at high risk and could hurt the local economies in Georgia’s port cities.

  • The Nobel Prize-winning Viral Hepatitis laboratory, which is running investigations into hepatitis outbreaks in states like Georgia, remains shuttered by Trump’s federal agency cuts in the midst of a national hepatitis outbreak

Kemp recently “sidestepped a direct answer” on Trump’s tariffs and has yet to address the administration’s sweeping cuts that have left thousands of now unemployed Georgia workers fired from federal agencies including the CDC — other than saying in February that “government can stand a little rightsizing.”

“Brian Kemp backed the Trump administration’s dangerous policies that are costing jobs, increasing costs, and creating massive health and safety risks,” said DPG spokesperson Alex Yerkey. “Each day, Georgians are paying the price for Kemp’s cowardice toward Trump.”
