The Freedom to Read
Panel Discussion: Intellectual Freedom and a Healthy Democracy 

May 24, 6-7:30PM, African American Research Library and Cultural Center

Understand your role in protecting and preserving our freedom to read at this free discussion. A panel of librarians and information science professionals will explore the history of book banning and the cultural pressures that have created today’s climate, as well as what you can do to empower change and protect your rights. Free copies of two books currently banned/challenged, A Kids Book About Systemic Racism and A Kids Book About White Privilege, will be available while supplies last, courtesy of A Kids Co.

Dave Barry, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and our state’s most famous “Florida Man,” will join Library Director Allison Grubbs for a spirited discussion of his new book, Swamp Story: A Novel.

The World in Pages with Author John Bowen: Eleven Months and Nineteen Days
June 27, 2-3PM, North Regional/Broward College Library
Author, watercolorist and veteran John Bowen will share his experiences writing and illustrating his book, Eleven Months and Nineteen Days, which documents the physical and emotional trials of his Vietnam experience and his readjustment to civilian life after his return.
