Celebrating Freedom: Haiti and Florida
Join us at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) for three different events celebrating independence and freedom, including a ticketed evening event and family fun day.

  • Haitian Flag Day Program, Thursday, May 18, 6-8PM
    Learn about Haitian heritage, revolution and independence.
     
  • Destination Freedom, Friday, May 19, 6-9PM
    AARLCC’s “Destination” series is back with Destination Freedom, a ticketed, adults-only event (ages 21+) celebrating Haiti and America. Pre-sale tickets are $15 and $20 the day of the event.
     
  • Florida’s Emancipation Day, Saturday, May 20, 11AM-4PM
    An anniversary tribute featuring a full day of food trucks, festivities, vendors, kids’ activities, crafts, storytelling and face-painting.

2023 Hurricane Preparedness - Open House
Saturday, May 6, 10AM-2PM, African American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC)
Learn how to prepare for the 2023 Hurricane Season (June 1 - November 30) and explore the many free resources available from Broward County agencies and community service supporters. Emergency preparedness resource giveaway, light refreshments and vouchers for neighborhood food vendors available while supplies last.

Drones in the Library! Oh My!
Saturday, May 13, 2-3PM, West Regional Library
Join Mr. Mike for drone fun, library-style! Hang out and watch the action or learn to fly one yourself and try out our drone obstacle course. Ages 15+.

Library branches are open for in-person visits and curbside service is available. Service hours and days vary. Library book drops are open 24/7 for returns.

Call us for one-on-one assistance, including help with eBooks, streaming movies, and research and reference questions.

No More Late Fines

Broward County Library no longer assesses any late fines for library books, DVDs and other materials returned after the due date. All existing late fines on cardholder accounts have been removed. Materials still have a due date and cardholders will be charged for lost or damaged items. Items are considered lost when they are 35 days past the due date.
