Ukrainian Poetry: History, Language & Losses

Celebrate National Poetry Month with a free online event featuring a panel of acclaimed Ukrainian poets, who will discuss the history and impact of Ukrainian poetry and read from a selection of their own work.
Panelists
Oksana Lutsyshyna is a Ukrainian writer, translator, poet and author of three novels, a collection of short stories and five books of poetry. She is the recipient of the Lviv City of Literature UNESCO Prize and the Taras Shevchenko National Award in fiction.
Lyuba Yakimchuk is a Ukrainian poet and author of several poetry collections, including Apricots of Donbas, which sheds light on people's experiences in war-torn regions. Her work has earned a number of prestigious awards and has been translated into over 20 languages.
Iya Yanivna Kiva is a Ukrainian poet, translator, journalist and critic who writes in Ukrainian and Russian. She is the author of Further from Heaven, The First Page of Winter and We Will Wake Up to Others: Conversations with Contemporary Belarusian Writers on the Past, Present and Future of Belarus.

Puppet Theater
La Bodega Botanica
May 15, 17; two shows daily at 3PM and 6PM, Main Library
Explore the rich history and mythology of Puerto Rico in this interactive puppet theater performance by artist Jacoub Reyes that features traditional and papercut puppets. After the performance, the audience is invited to take a behind-the-scenes peek at the artist’s process, ask questions and learn more.

Star Wars on DVD
Use your Broward County Library card to check out a Star Wars movie on DVD. Put one (or more) on hold and pick them up from the library location of your choice.

No More Late Fines
Broward County Library no longer assesses any late fines for library books, DVDs and other materials returned after the due date. All existing late fines on cardholder accounts have been removed. Materials still have a due date and cardholders will be charged for lost or damaged items. Items are considered lost when they are 35 days past the due date.
